APLB
Sixth International Conference on Petloss and Bereavement
and Workshop in Petloss and Bereavement Counseling
at the Hilton Hotel, at Newark Liberty (NJ) Airport

May 18 — 20, 2012

This unique and important conference is being designed to serve two distinct groups: pet lovers who are deeply concerned with petloss, and the professionals who serve them and their animals. This includes bereavement counselors, vets, their staffs, shelter personnel, and others who deal with pets. Specific programs for each are being planned.

Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of HSUS will give the keynote address at the Saturday plenary session. He will speak about the many important changes that are being made to help animals, and how the APLB and HSUS serve pet lovers, in ways that no other organizations can. He will also clear up any misconceptions about the HSUS.

And on Sunday, our vice president, Joe Dwyer, will tell about his amazing experience, adopting “Daniel, the Miracle Dog” who survived a euthanizing gas chamber in Georgia, and became a world figure in all media. Joe will then introduce Linda Schiller, president of 11th Hour Rescue, who facilitated Daniel’s rescue and adoption. Come and meet Daniel. He will be at the conference all day, on Sunday.

On Friday, May 18 we will again be giving our highly acclaimed in-person 10-hour Workshop for pet bereavement counselors. The special APLB Certificate of Training, and 10 CE credits, authorized by NASW will also be awarded for this.

The main meeting room will be utilized during the seminars as an ongoing bereavement clinic. A special wall of honor will be set up, where attendees can pin photos and memorial statements of their beloved deceased pets. And there will be a page in the Conference Catalog, naming and honoring all the deceased pets of those who attend. Related books, material and paraphernalia will be made available here, and vendors will set up special distribution tables.

Breakfasts and the dinner are free to those registered for both days of the conference.
