Pet Bereavement Counselors:
Kansas

There are literally hundreds of people who are now counseling in pet bereavement, and it is not possible for the APLB to register them all. Some hesitate to be listed in any directory, others are first discovering the benefits of this wonderful service, and many more are still unknown to us. We welcome all new applicants to contact us directly by mail or online at aplb@aplb.org. This listing is arranged according to geographical location. We are pleased that every counselor registered below is a member of the APLB.

I am a doctoral-level psychologist (Ph.D.). I received my degree in 1997 from an APA-accredited school. I have been working in the mental health field for over 20 years. One of my specialty areas is grief and loss. Being a pet lover myself, I became aware that there was a strong need for pet bereavement counseling. Talking to veterinarians in the community confirmed my conviction. From then on I began to do pet bereavement therapy in a more formalized way. I work with this issue as I would any other major loss in a person’s life, with a few exceptions. One is to give extra validation to the client, who may feel that they should not be having such intense feelings, since those around them often cannot understand. I also encourage clients to share photos and other items that might help them express and work through their loss.
