There are literally hundreds of people who are now counseling in pet bereavement, and it is not possible for the APLB to register them all. Some hesitate to be listed in any directory, others are first discovering the benefits of this wonderful service, and many more are still unknown to us. We welcome all new applicants to contact us directly by mail or online at aplb@aplb.org. This listing is arranged according to geographical location. We are pleased that every counselor registered below is a member of the APLB.

I have worked in the field of social work and counseling for over 20 years, and in 2004, assisted with the development of the Illinois Cremation Society’s pet loss program. In that same year I received training from the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association, and volunteered on the CVMA Pet Loss Helpline. In November, 2006, I opened The Pet Loss Support Center of Middleton, Wisconsin which offers pet loss counseling, educational seminars and resources on pet loss and human bereavement.
My goal in counseling is to provide a caring and supportive environment that will encourage the expression of feelings and emotions resulting from the loss of a companion animal. I provide information and resources on the human-animal bond and grief to all those who request it.

I have more than 15 years of experience in counseling both adults and children through the loss of their pets. It has been said that the dog/cat is the only being who loves us more than we love ourselves. In recognizing that, I know just how devastating the loss of that kind of relationship is. My methodology for counseling people through the grief process is to lend an attentive, sympathetic ear while supplying meaningful, practical suggestions in dealing with their grief. All of my counseling is non-denominational. I am also certified in psychological kinesiology or Psych-K™. This is a very useful tool not only for helping others through grief, but for making substantial positive changes in all aspects of their lives.
My services include but are not necessarily limited to anticipatory grief counseling, attendance at euthanization, final arrangements for pet, memorial services to assist in closure and grief counseling by phone or in person. We also facilitate a Pet Loss Support Group. Please see the separate listing for this.
