Rooted Bonds Counseling, LLC

Hello, I’m Mariah Tendam, LPCC, founder of Rooted Bonds Counseling.

I created this space in honor of my soul dog, DJ, who showed me just how deep and life-shaping the bond with an animal can be. He was a source of comfort, connection, and steadiness in my life, and that relationship continues to shape how I show up for others navigating similar experiences.

I work with individuals who are grieving the loss of a beloved companion animal, as well as those facing anticipatory grief, caregiving, or end-of-life decisions. I also support those coping with the ongoing stress of caring for a pet with chronic illness or complex medical needs. Pet loss and caregiving can carry layers of trauma, guilt, and disenfranchised grief, and it’s often an experience that feels misunderstood or minimized by others.

I believe those bonds matter, and your grief deserves space.

My approach is relational, trauma-informed, and attachment-focused. I offer a warm, empathic, and nonjudgmental space where you can slow down, process your emotions, and honor the bond you shared at a pace that feels right for you.

At home with my husband, we share life with three mischievous and loving cats—Dexter, Luna, and Stella—and two rescue dogs, Monty and Shyla. Monty, our tripawd, came first, and Shyla joined us after being on the euthanasia list. I’ve also cared for many other pets over the years, which continues to ground me in this work.

You don’t have to hold this alone.

If this resonates with you and you’d like to see if we might be a good fit, you’re welcome to reach out at Mariah@rootedbondscounseling.com
