I got Akasha from a person that I was delivering meds to. I used to be a social workers, and one of our side gigs was to deliver meds to clients and watch them take them. Her cat got pregnant and she asked me if I would want one of the babies. I told her if there was a calico in the litter, I would. And of course, there she was.
From the moment I met her, she was pissy. The first thing she did when she met me was hiss and spit at me. I loved her instantly. She continued to be pissy with everyone but me her entire life. The only time that she was sweet was when she was in heat…..which would be her downfall in the end.
I didn’t get her spayed like I should have when she was young. I waited. I waited too long. She developed cancer in 2015 and had 3 surgeries to remove it all. But it couldn’t all be gotten. She had one final surgery at the end of 2017 and we decided that if it came back again, we would have to let her go.
That was one of the hardest days of my life, one of the three times I really guttural crying. I still miss her and think about her and the impact that she had on our lives and our family.
