One of my favorite Chicklett stories happened shortly after I moved to Nashville. I was outside my apartment one day talking with a neighbor I had never met before. When I pointed out which apartment was mine, she immediately said, “Oh, I know exactly where you live, you have the dog that barks nonstop while you’re at work all day.” Chicklett had apparently introduced himself to the entire neighborhood long before I had.
Chicklett was a one-of-a-kind Doxiehuahua, a Dachshund-Chihuahua mix with a big personality packed into a small frame. Adopted as an adult, his exact age was always a bit of a mystery, but what was never in doubt was his loyalty to the people and pets he loved.
Chicklett could be a grumpy old man at times and wasn’t shy about expressing his opinions, but beneath that tough exterior was a dog with a huge heart. He especially adored his younger sister, Scooter, and the two could often be found curled up together in their bed beside the fireplace in Nashville, Tennessee.
As my first dog after moving to Nashville, Chicklett was there through an important chapter of my life. He brought companionship, laughter, and more than a few memorable stories. Though he sometimes pretended to be annoyed by the world around him, those who knew him best knew he was happiest when he was surrounded by family, friends, and the comforts of home.
