Lucy has always been convinced that the television exists for her personal entertainment. If she wants to watch TV, she stands in front of the screen and growls until someone turns it on. If she doesn’t approve of what’s playing, she makes her opinion known and refuses to move until the channel is changed to something she likes.
One of our favorite memories was watching the live-action Lady and the Tramp together. Lucy was so excited that we could barely hear the movie over her commentary. For nearly the entire film, she bounced, barked, and interacted with the dogs on the screen as if she were part of the story herself. She is equally captivated by 101 Dalmatians and still watches it with the same enthusiasm.
Whether she’s watching her favorite shows, riding along on a road trip, greeting her many friends around the neighborhood, or joining us for breakfast at one of her favorite local spots, Lucy approaches life with curiosity, joy, and a determination to be included in whatever adventure comes next.
Lucy joined our family when she was barely six weeks old and immediately made her presence known. Tiny but fearless, she was playful, mischievous, and always looking for someone, or something, to tease. Beneath that feisty exterior, however, was an incredibly loyal and loving companion who wanted nothing more than to be close to the people she loved.
Born in Tennessee and raised primarily in Orlando, Lucy has spent her life collecting friends wherever she goes. She loves to travel, enjoys exploring the streets of Manhattan, and has never met a stranger during her neighborhood walks. Around home, she is known for always needing to be touching someone, whether curled up beside them on the couch or pressed against their leg. At fourteen years old, she still insists on keeping her family close.
Lucy is also an avid television watcher with a particular fondness for I Love Lucy and classic Wild Kingdom reruns. Equal parts explorer, entertainer, and queen of the neighborhood, she has a way of making everyone feel like a friend.
After the loss of her beloved sister Bella, Lucy’s health declined dramatically and there were moments when we feared we might lose her too. Thanks to extraordinary care, unwavering determination, and Lucy’s own resilient spirit, she has regained her strength and continues to enjoy life one adventure at a time. Every day with her is a gift, and we treasure each one.
