Yuki changed my life. I was never a pet person, but we was determined to break me. She would jump on the couch with me and I’d run! “Pet her you idiot,” my husband would say, “that’s all she wants.” At first I would pet her as if I was using a 10 foot pole. She persisted, she was relentless and few weeks later, my husband says, “who are you? A few weeks ago you were petrified of her and now you’re cuddling with her on the couch and rubbing her belly!”
She made me fall in love with her and because of her I overcame my fear of dogs.
Later in life, she’s come into my room while I was on the computer and she’d do the little dog whistle noise and I would clutch my heart and run to her and give her treats.
Yuki was a gift. She was the sweetest, most gentle little cream Shiba Inu. She was a little small for the breed, but she was so mighty and had the biggest heart. She was brave, adventurous, tenacious, curious, relentless, determined, loving, playful, innocent. Loving. So loving. So giving! And I was so lucky to have you for your last 7 years of life … it was not enough time. I knew it would never be enough time.
She was a pretty healthy girl, except for the random ear infection and later in life eye ulcers. And as she got older she lost her hearing. Last November she had a successful lumpectomy and the doctor said he was able to remove the entire mass. He told us that we’d have another another year with her.
On the night of Wednesday, April 29th 2026 we took her to the ER. She had an episode of vestibular disease and the vet told us it would resolve on its own. She was making progress day by day, but by Monday, May 4th 2026, she took a turn for the worse and we had to say goodbye to her.
I miss her every day.
Daughter, sister, niece and the best Shiba Inu there ever was.
