No one understands exactly or completely how you feel when dealing with the death of your pet. Having compassionate people hear, and honor, the history of life with your companion can be a healing salve and make the process easier, lighter, less lonely. I have been privileged to work with individuals and families dealing with grief for over thirty years. In facilitating group experiences I can honestly say I see love overshadow grief, sharing memories comfort breaking hearts, and people come to deal with the loss of a loving, much loved pet.

A graduate of University of Louisville’s Kent School of Social Work, I have been practicing the healing art of Social Work in Nashville, Tennesse since 1974.

I am a psychotherapist with over 13 years of experience counseling individuals, couples and families through depression, anxiety, grief, trauma and relationship issues. I completed the APLB Certification in Pet Loss Bereavement Counseling in September, 2013. I have also volunteered with local animal rescue, sheltering and re-homing efforts for several years. I have experienced the loss of my own beloved pets, and have provided support to clients and others in the animal rescue volunteer community who have faced difficult end of life decisions and significant grief over the loss of their pet(s) and/or rescue animals.

I believe that we form significant bonding relationships with our pets, and that the loss of these relationships needs to be respectfully acknowledged and honored. My approach to counseling for specific pet loss and bereavement issues typically involves a short term (1-3 session) focus on understanding the unique nature of the person’s experiences with his/her pet while offering supportive coping strategies and education about the end-of-life and grieving processes. Please contact me by phone or email if you are interested in more information about pet loss counseling services.
